A new niece Sep. 11th, 2006 @ 01:06 am
My sister-in-law just gave birth to a new baby girl (now) yesterday morning. For a while, we were referring to her as Moxie (though the reasoning behind that is lost to me...). Now, her real name is Penny...I think. I just met her, but I've always been bad with names :P

Anyway, new life has been born into the world, and we're all happy :D

My condolences Sep. 4th, 2006 @ 11:26 pm
I know most people are talking about this right now. Steve Irwin died in a diving expedition recently, stung in the chest by a stingray. I'm sorry to hear he's gone. He was a witty, enthusiastic entertainer, as well as an animal expert and nature enthusiast. From what I hear, dying the way he did is an extremely rare case. Stingrays are not normally aggressive, and getting hit by one in the chest is rare enough. Both combined was certainly deadly for Steve, and a handful of others in the past 50 years who had this happen to them.

My prayers go to his surviving family. May they find comfort in the fact that he died doing what he loved.

Who would win in a fight... Jul. 8th, 2006 @ 12:59 am
A fun conteplative subject has arisen: Who would win in a fight between the AS7-D Atlas (original configuration) and the NX-78 Prototype Gundam. Here's their specs from what I've learned:

"RX-78-2 'GUNDAM' E.F.S.F. PROTOTYPE CLOSE-COMBAT MOBILE SUIT"
Model No. RX-78-2
Height: 18.0m
Weight: 60.0t
Generator output: 1380kw
Thruster output: 55500kg
Material: luna-titanium alloy
Armoments:
Beam rifle
Beam saber
60mm VULCAN cannon

"AS7-D 'Atlas' Davion variant 3025 Assault Mech"
Tech Base: Inner Sphere, level 1
Mass: 100 Ton, standard structure
Configuration: Biped
Height: 17.0m
Engine: Vlar 300 standard
Cruising speed: 32.4 kph
Max Speed: 54.0 kph
Armorment:
4 Med Lasers (L-Arm, R-Arm, 2 CT-Rear)
1 SRM 6 (LT)
1 LRM 20 (LT)
1 AC20 (RT)

Now, the Atlas is the feared powerhouse of Battletech, despite the fact that half its firepower is effective only within around 270m at most. However, it's LRM racks can fire upon targets at a much farther range (closing in at 1000m). The fact that this Mech is 40t hevier than it's prospective opponent doesn't help. However, it has the thickest possible armor available for any battlemech, which means it can withstand quite a beating before it falls...so long as it isn't chopped in half by the beam saber.

The Gundam, as protrayed in the TV series, is highly manuverable, especially when weilding it's ultimate short range weapon: The beam saber. Come to think of it, the Gundam's beam riffle was fairly powerful too, but it wasn't effective at short range. There's no information on the Gundam's armor, except that it was effective against Zeon weapons at the time of its deployment.

In any case, I leave this out there for anyone who wants to speculate. But, please, tell me who you think will win :D

A new and interesting experience Jul. 1st, 2006 @ 08:04 pm
The WalMart where I work had to shut down today. The cause, as yet, is unknown, but something got into the air that was making people cough and sneeze. They evacuated the building and called the HazMat Decon teams. I went through the thing patiently. All I had was a mild cough, but I spent about an hour altogether waiting to be processed at the site, went through the Decon tent, was taken to the hospital, and waited there until they had observed me and sent me home. Not much else to say, really. I'm surious to know what had escaped into the air, though.

On a rampage May. 25th, 2006 @ 11:17 am
I said I would give an update on Rampage, and here it is:

It's not entirely what I expected. Sure, you've got gorillas and other massive monsters crawling all over buildings, smashing in windows, eating people, and the like. But I expected being able to travel through a 3D city, smashing buildings and such, like in that Godzilla game that came out a few years ago. Ah well, it's fun anyway. I've gotten to the point in the game where a tank rolls onto the screen and tries to shoot you down :D

» Slacking off
Yeah, I've been slacking off a bit, but I really haven't had much to say on Livejournal recently. Thus, I broke the unofficial one-post-a-week thing I was running for a bit there. Oh well, at least now I have something to write about.

I picked up a game tonight for Game Cube. It's called RAMPAGE: Total Destruction. It's a game where you can run around a city as a five-story monster and destroy everything. You can even throw things, apparently. I may say more when I actually play the things, but for now, this is all I got. :)
» FFVII: AC
Recently, the movie "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" was released on DVD for everyone in the US. I purchased this movie on tuesday in a special two-pack which included "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within". It just so happened that this two pack was the same price as Advent Children on its own, so I figured, what the heck.

Anyway, it was a good movie, if a little short. It was only about an hour-and-a-half long, and since they were working with characters established in a popular game, they spent little time with character development. The story takes place two years after the end of FFVII. I never completed the game myself, but they added a "FFVII Reminiscence" featurette that shows the general main plotline, which I watched after the main movie.

The fighting in the movie was interesting, and something like the Matrix. IE: People jumping around and off walls, high hangtime, moving at high speed sometimes, etc... When I saw the first hand-to-hand fight between Tisha(?) and one of the new bad guys (a lackey), I thought: Hey, she's one of the most powerful fighters on the planet. No wonder she's jumping around like that.

There were two really cool devices in this movie. One was Cloud's motorcycle. This is a cool, sleek black bike that not only takes Cloud from place to place, but it has side compartments that open up and hold Cloud's sword(s). The other cool device is Cloud's sword itself. The Buster sword he had at the beginning of FFVII is stuck in the ground outside the ruins of the city, as a sort of marker, I suppose. The sword he has now still resembles a buster sword, when it's fully assembled, that is. This weapon is a modular weapon that can separate into a number of different blades. This feature is demonstrated a number of times throughout the movie.

From my standpoint, it might be helpful for someone to play FFVII before they see this movie, if anything to learn about the characters, and know what has happened before. There are just a few things that you might catch better if you've done this.
» Warriors: Starlight
The latest book in the Warriors series came out recently. When I got my hands on it, I read half of it that night, and the rest the following morning. Now I can't wait for the next one.

(mild spoilers ahead)

This wasn't a terrible cliffhanger like the end of A Dangerous Path, book for of the first series, but it did leave many situations un-dealt with. One of the main characters, Brakenfur from Thunderclan, is having trouble seeing how treacherous his half brother Hawkfrost from Riverclan is. His girlfriend, Squirrelflight (Thunderclan), who does see this, is troubled by Brambleclaw's relationship with him, and Squirrelflight's sister, Leafpool, is beginning to fall in love with Crowfeather (Windclan), when 1) Cat's from different clans should NOT have romantic relationships, and 2) Medicine Cats are not allowed to have romantic relationships whatsoever. Such a relationship would interfere with their duty to treat all wounded cats equally. This relationship that's budding between them will only cause trouble.

On top of this, I'm convinced that Graystripe (Thunderclan, went missing in the last book) is coming back, perhaps in time to save Leafpool from an illicit relationship. But, only time, and the next book, will tell.

(/spoilers)

» ...Like ships and sails and...Floorwax?
If I hadn't mentioned before, I work at a Wal-Mart as a Layaway associate. We're in the spring season now, and we have a number of *cough* lovely outdoor furniture sets that are the perfect, bulky paperweights to fill the bins with. In any case, we have a few canopy sets that, though thin, are too long to fit in the bins that we have. We had to stick them under the back counter in the front Layaway area instead. Now, this is on the linoleum floors that the nightly crew waxes every night, or every other night, or whatever...They wax the floors anyway. I discovered today when one of the customers was picking up his canopy, that all three of these sets were effectively glued to the floor. The would not budge an inch, not matter what I did with them. To serve the customer, I had to get another canopy set out of Lawn and Garden and give that one to them while I tried to figure out what to do with the ones stuck to the floor.

I am yet to solve that problem...

Hopefully, the answer to this will present itself soon enough. Until then, I hope the other two customers don't show up for their canopies until we fix this...
» Spring cleaning, to a point...
I've started reorginizing my art gallery, adding thumbnails instead of full images to make for faster loading times and less clutter (and far less scrolling down the page to find images). Depending on how this week goes, I might be able to cram in a full site update fairly quickly. The Tetmoth section is going to be the hardest, as it has the most images...and I have several more that I need to introduce. But it's going to be alot better when I'm done.
» Thumbnail trouble...
I'm having a small issue with uploading an improved version of a section of my gallery, one that incorporates thumbnails, instead of large images. For some reason, the server messes up when I try to upload the page with the thumbnails. I could create the page anew, or use a different linking method...

It's a good thing I decided not to update my entire gallery in this fashion...
» Fan Art
A little while ago, I drew something I don't often draw: Fan Art. Now, I've done a few things related to Neopets, but nothing pertaining to their specific characters. This last piece, though, I did for a comic called "Creature, Keeper of the Vortron: Dimensional Gateway", or "Creature" for short. It's a funny comic, but it is also planned out far in advance. It's creator, Riswan, thought about putting it in a novel format before she realized that alot of what she was writing would work better in comic format, as she had originally made it (part of a school project).

Anyway, the fan art I made has the two main characters, and their pet, in a humerous situation, which you may have to read the comic to actually understand. When I showed it to Riswan, she said it was adorable, though, so I'm happy with it :)

If you're interested, Creature can be found here: http://www.webcomicsnation.com/risawn/
» How wrong is wrong?
That comic is all kinds of wrong. It's not constant, but there are points where...it's just wrong. I read the whole thing last night, which was about three years worth of mon/wed/fri comics (good thing I had the day off today). On the plus side, Recon (the author) seems to actually update his comic regularly, unlike some others I've seen.

The highlight of last night started on the comic for May 20th, soon after the main characters reached Dewford Island. This kind of hung in the background while the characters did other things, until the final moment on January 23rd, where it all hit the fan. Even if you haven't played this game, Recon does provide a little background to this in-game oddity in his news panel under the comic. Apparently, he's actually done this in the game.
» Pokemon?
I was browsing through the links in one of the webcomic sites I visit, and I found a sprite Webcomic called Pokemon X (http://pokemonx.comicgenesis.com). I've only gone through a few pages of it, but I'm already chuckling at it. Now, it's already a bit crude, but it's veiled for the most part (especially on the more grotesque points), but still, it's funny.

Yes, it makes fun of Pokemon, the game, and how the RPG plays out. In fact, the first page warns viewers that it isn't there to "Glorify" Pokemon.

Oh, and another note: For each page, it plays the appropriate tune for that room you're viewing.

Ah well, view it, don't view it. I don't care. I like it :D
» We're all doomed...I think...
I have a few friends on Neopets who are having a rough time in life right now. One went to the hospital for a day due to abdominal pain, another friend's cat died recently, two students dies in a car crash in one of their schools...and most of them have enough stress just dealing with school. Talk about your bad spells.

Considering how much has happened to them recently, I can only hope they'll pull out of it soon. I have a subconscious feeling that many things in life come in a balance. If something bad happens, something good may also come out of it. God won't leave us in the dark too long, but he does do these things to get our attention.
» A new project
I haven't explored this avenue for some time, but I went browsing for a creature encyclopedia online recently. The only one I found that actually had a long list of mythical beings was incomplete, and had apparently not been updated for six years. There are a few books on the subject, but I think I'm going to compile my own anyway. In the end, it will probably be more extensive than what I'll find anywhere else.

I already have a list from the site I found. Now, all I have to do is search for and find information on each one. Of course, the list is incomplete as well. But, that's what appending is for :)
» Going Solo
I found this 2D animation program recently. Well, actually, it was a company called Toon Boom who was making several kinds of animation programs, and I selected the easy looking one from the bunch. Anyway, it's called Toon Boom: Solo, and it features vectoring tools, built in drawing tools, morphing capabilities, automatic lip-syncing, and a bunch of other stuff I haven't even gone over yet. I'm still trying to figure out how it works, and hopefully I can before the 30 day trial runs out. Then, maybe I can decide if I want to invest in it or not.

Heck, if I can figure it out in less than a month, I might even animate something :)
» Dragons
I'm not sure why, but I've been drawing Dragons lately. I only have a few images (with what time I spend actually drawing), but I've had this facination of drawing these massive winged lizards, and the knights they harass. None of them are serious, really. I've got two of them in my gallery under "other", but if this keeps up, they may have to have their own catagory.
» Dreary delusions of the creative side of the mind...
Many of us have dreams, or have had them. Sometimes they're normal, sometimes they're a bit odd, and sometimes they're completely off the wall. As far as I know, this is the creative side of your mind trying to occupy itself while the rest of the body rests. Maybe its mulling over something that happened earlier in the day, or maybe its trying to piece together something your unconscious doesn't completely understand. In the latter case, if your active mind remembers what your subconcious was mulling over, you often wonder what it was thinking. Then there are the times where you wake up, sometimes from a dreary sleep, and dreamland seems to follow you into the waking world.

I had such a case this morning. My sister woke me up so we could go to church, and my mind was thinking, for some odd reason, that if I got up, the vixens would be mad at me for taking their paintbrushes away. Beyond that, I don't remember what was going on.

Then, this afternoon, I fell to sleep while watching Transformers: Beast Wars, and the show followed me into my dreams. I don't remember what happened, but I know my mind was dwelling on it.

We all know the mind is a strange, unpredictable device of the body. Most of its functions are still shrouded in mystery, whether physically or by function. If they ever do unravel the mystery of the mind, perhaps they can explain these things. But, for now, I'm content to just sit back and enjoy the show.
» How unlucky can you get?
I find it funny the happenings of today. Not only is it friday the 13th, but it's also the full moon (well, it's actually listed for tomorrow). I think this will make people prone to do stupid things today. People are people, no matter what they do. All I can say is that if I avoid black cats and ladders all day, I should be alright :)
